Throughout this course, I was introduced to new types of tasks that I have not done in any of the prior classes that I have taken at Rutgers University. Prior to enrolling in the course, I did not think that we would be doing something as interesting as making a podcast. I thought that we would definitely be making a bunch of presentations, but I was clearly wrong. Some memorable takeaways from this course would definitely be doing the final project, which was to make a podcast utilizing Audacity, and using screencasting software to demonstrate a tutorial. These two assignments in the course have a tremendous impact on today’s world since they are currently both very prevalent. There are a countless number of screencasting videos on the Internet since it has proven to be the most optimal way to teach someone how to do something on their technological devices. Therefore, learning how to be familiar with this type of software is very impactful since I can use this new skill in order to show someone how to do something on the Internet. In this scenario, a screencast is much more efficient in showing someone how to do something than trying to explain it to them over the phone.
In similarity, the podcast assignment proved to also be a key takeaway since it provided me with the understanding of the basics of Audacity. Podcasts have grown significantly in popularity in the recent years since an increasing number of people are making and listening to them. Audacity is a program that I have not worked with previously so I am enjoying the ability to work with software that can help me in the future if I want to edit different audio segments. I have thought about starting a podcast with some of my friends in the past, which shows why learning this skill ended up being a key takeaway for me from this class. The class has provided me with a good understanding of two programs that could both be used by me in the future.
